With a population of just 30 000 in 1980, the town now inhabits 8 million people. IMG_7548_filtered IMG_7597_filtered Dragon-i, the hottest nightclub in Hong Kong. Supposedly this is the club where Jackie Chan and David Bechkam come to party when they're in town and you don't get in unless you're a model, VIP or millionaire. Unfortunately this meant there were hardly any locals in the club but since I don't know any of the local celebrities, it looked like just another party to me. Event - A quick stint in Hong Kong. No particular reason for going, the opportunity just presented itself and I thought I'd go check it out. Naturally I caved in when I saw the price of 40D ($1100 in Hong Kong vs $1900 in Estonia) and since the prices of lenses were in a similar category, I brought back the Canon 40D, the Sigma 50-150mm F2.8 and the Tamron 17-50mm F2.8. The Tamron won't be replacing the kit lens though and although I forgot to purchase the new IS (image-stabilized) version of the kit, I'll be sure to get it. It'll be hard to part with the 350D - it has been absolutely fantastic. I still love the size (man the 40D sure is bigger and I always preferred the smaller size of the 350D), the weight, the features, the quality and the value. I was constantly disappointed with all the follow-up cameras (30D, 400D and 40D), at least on paper and thought I wouldn't buy another prosumer DSLR Canon until they get with the program and add in-body image stabilization and a usable auto-ISO, but those Hong Kong prices... they're the devil I tell you!

Photography - Although the trip was far from boring, I find the pictures I took quite dull, but The reason for this is that I tried to keep photography to an absolute minimum. Unlike my previous trips, where I could stay as long as I wanted and thus take my time with photography as well, I was now bound by the date on my return flight ticket and therefore photography had to take a backseat. My time was spent seeing as much of the city as I could, checking out the latest electronics gadgets and oggling at their miniscule prices, haggling on street markets, hunting for toys, t-shirts and local souvenirs and tasting the excellent Asian and Chinese cuisine. I only took out the camera in the nightclub (because I had promised to) and whenever I was in transit from one place to another in a roofless means of transportation (a bus, a tram or the ferry). At first I didn't even want to put the pictures online, that's how boring I find them compared to the actual experience, but what the heck.
